Les Spencer’s first broadcasting experience came in 1929 with a part-time job at WCAH in Columbus, Ohio. He soon moved to WOWO, Fort Wayne, as a staff announcer for six years, and then went to WHIO, Dayton, Ohio. In 1952 he returned to Indiana as manager of WKBV, Richmond, where he later became president of parent Central Broadcasting Corporation. He held that title for 27 years as the group ownership expanded to include stations in Marion and Bedford and 4 others out-of-state. Spencer continued to do play-by-play sports in Richmond for many years. He served as president of the Indiana Broadcasters Association in 1957. Spencer retired in 1978 and died in Florida in 1997.
