Lew Wood was born in Indianapolis and graduated from Purdue University, and first worked for WDZ-AM in Decatur, Illinois. He then joined WSBT TV and Radio in South Bend, before leaving for CBS News, where he covered the Civil Rights marches and the Kennedy assassination. He also worked as a news anchor at WNBC, New York, and for one year anchored the news desk on the NBC-TV Today Show. Wood later had a successful second career as a media trainer. He returned to Indianapolis as the National Director of Public Relations for The American Legion before entering retirement. He died in California on August 21, 2013, at age 84.
