After four years as news manager at WTHI, Terre Haute, Howard Caldwell moved to WFBM (later WRTV), Indianapolis, where he was news reporter/anchor for more than 35 years. The Indianapolis Press Club named him Newsman of the Year in 1978, citing his consistent professionalism. Caldwell earned bachelors and masters degrees from Butler University and in 1984 was bestowed with an honorary Doctor of Letters degree. In 2011 he was named a Gold Circle award winner by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for 50 years of significant contribution to television. Caldwell has authored several books, including “Tony Hinkle: Coach of All Seasons” and “The Golden Age of Indianapolis Theatres.” He died in Indianapolis September 11, 2017, at the age of 92.
