BornHoagy At Piano in Bloomington, Hoagy Carmichael lead a small jazz band while attending Indiana University (and eventually getting a law degree). While in Bloomington he wrote “Stardust,” which became an American standard. He first recorded the song at Gennett Records in Richmond, Indiana. Carmichael wrote some of the nation’s all-time favorites, including “Georgia on My Mind”, “Up a Lazy River”, and “The Nearness of You.” He hosted three musical variety radio programs in the 1940’s; among them “The Hoagy Carmichael Show” on CBS.
