Durward Kirby’s family moved to Indianapolis when he was 15. He began broadcasting at WBAA, Purdue University. Later started at WFBM Radio, Indianapolis, with the early-morning “Chuck Wagon Show,” and then to WLW Radio, Cincinnati, and NBC in Chicago. He tried his hand at everything, from disc jockey to coverage of a political convention. He served as one of the hosts on the “Quiz Kids” program from Chicago. Kirby is best remembered for his network television roles as announcer-sidekick on “The Garry Moore Show” in the 1950’s and “Candid Camera” with Allen Funt 1961-66. He retired from active broadcasting in 1973, and died May 15, 2000, in Fort Myers, Florida, at age 88.
