Donald Davidson’s passionate interest in the “500” since his early teens irresistibly drew the English-born-and-raised to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) for a three-week visit in May 1964. The 2013 Indianapolis 500 was Donald’s 49th consecutive year on the broadcast race team. He was the United States Auto Club’s statistician and historian for 31 years. He has been the official IMS Historian since 1998. Since 1971 he has hosted a popular racing trivia call-in program on WIBC-AM (now WFIN-AM) Indianapolis and each spring since 1986 taught a four-night course of “500” history at the Indiana University/Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus. Davidson is co-author of the “Autocourse Official History of the Indianapolis 500” and has contributed to countless hardcover books on racing. He has published numerous articles in AutoWeek, Motor Trend, Road & Track, Car and Driver and the Indianapolis 500 Yearbook.
