Hoover worked 30 years at the Indianapolis News most notably as the paper’s chief police reporter. He joined WIBC, Indianapolis, in 1956 to start a broadcast news career that was to run another two decades. Hoover is also an inductee in the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame. Still working at age 78, he was named “Newsman of the Year” by the Indianapolis Press Club in 1976.
