John Hartnett started WSVL Radio, Shelbyville, in 1961 and was general manager and involved in station operations until 1988. As a small town broadcaster, he was a community leader for 31 years. A Chamber of Commerce civic award is named in Hartnett’s honor. The Indiana High School Athletic Association honored him with its Distinguished Media Award in 1993.
