Donfischer Fischer is in his 41st year as the “Radio Voice” of Indiana University football and basketball games. The past 26 years, Fischer has worked as an independent contractor, and is currently serving the I.U. Radio Network owned by Learfield Communications. In addition to broadcasting the games, Fischer hosts the weekly Coaches talk shows for both football and basketball, and has a daily show, Monday through Friday, from September through March. The show, called “IU Sports Today,” is syndicated throughout the state of Indiana. Other free lance sportscasting has included being the television voice of the Indianapolis Colts pre-season games.

During his work with I.U., Fischer has been named Indiana Sportscaster of the Year 26 times by two different organizations. The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association has awarded him 22 times (including 2011), while the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association has named him their honoree 4 times. The Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association inducted Fischer into the ISSA Hall of Fame in 2004.

Fischer has broadcast over 1600 Indiana University games that include eight Bowl games, four NCAA basketball Championship games, and two N.I.T. Championship games. From 1973 through 1987, he worked for ABC Radio, Canada’s CBC, and several other major market radio stations including WIRE in Indianapolis as their source for reports during the month of May coverage of the Indianapolis 500. During that 14 year period, he also served Indianapolis radio station WIRE and Network Indiana, a statewide news network, as their Sports Director.

Fischer had previous radio stops in Butte, Montana; Ottawa, Illinois; Springfield, Illinois; and Terre Haute, Indiana.
