James Mathis
was the first Program Director for Butler University’s WAJC-FM. He graduated in 1952, then served in the U.S. Air Force. Starting in 1955, he was a Salesman, Announcer, and children’s program host for WASK, Lafayette. In 1958 he joined WTTV-4, Indianapolis. Two years later, he was hired by WFBM, Indianapolis. During his 18-year tenure, he held the positions of Account Executive, General Sales Manager, and National Sales Manager. He also joined the Butler Department of Radio and Television, a faculty position he kept for 18 years. In 1978, Mathis left WFBM to form Broadcast Communications, Inc., a syndication company. He served as Executive Producer of the 500 Festival Parade, Kentucky Derby Parade, and others. He produced and syndicated the Notre Dame coaches’ shows.
